It is usually enough to build a library or an application, but sometimes your project consists of several parts resulting in several libraries and several applications. QMake is powerful enough to handle these situations as well. Let s have a look at how it can look. The project shown here consists of a library and an application. The library is called base, and the application is called app. The files of the project are structured as shown in Listing 15-4. The master project file, complex.pro, is located at the base level, along with the directories bin, lib, app, include, and src. The bin and lib directories are empty. The app directory contains the source code and project file for the application. The include directory contains the header files for the library; that is, the headers shared between the library and the application. The src directory contains the source code and project file for the library. The two empty directories, lib and bin, are intended for the library built from the contents of src and the resulting application binary from app, respectively.

If you plan to build multiple SharePoint workflow projects, you should install these files into the Global Assembly Cache (GAC). To do this, open the Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt from the Start Programs menu. Type the following command, replacing [path] with the path to where you placed the DLL files: gacutil /i "c:\[path]\microsoft.sharepoint.workflowactions.dll" After you enter the command, hit Enter, and you should get a message Assembly successfully added to the cache. Continue this for the other DLL files as well. To test out the new project templates that were installed with the ECM, open Visual Studio 2005 and choose File New Project. When the New Project dialog box appears, click VB on the left and choose SharePoint Sequential Workflow Library. Enter VBSharePointSequential as the name. The New Project dialog box will look like Figure 11-1.

In JavaScript, you refer to an HTML control by prefixing it with the name of the form that it is on. In this case, the form is called form1, and hence you can get the value of the txtMake field using form1.txtMake.value. Your web service proxy has the same name as the service itself. In this case, the service is called CarService and thus so is the proxy. In many cases you may have a dot-separated hierarchy of names for your web service (that is, MathFunctions.Services.DepreciationService), in which case you would use that as the name of your proxy too. The rule of thumb you can use, if in doubt, is to look up the value of the Class= attribute in the .asmx file and use that. Now, you may notice that your getCarValue web method took only three parameters, but now you are passing five parameters. The additional ones are the callback functions that you specify upon successful completion of the service call and upon a timeout of the service call. This handles Ajax asynchrony for you completely under the hood! In this example, you implement the callback functions like this: function OnComplete(result) { alert("Car is worth: $" + result); } function OnTimeOut(result) { alert("Timeout: " + result); } The web method returns a value, and this is passed as result to both the successful and the timeout callbacks. In the case of a successful request/response, this will contain the calculated value of the car. Figure 3-16 shows the application calculating the price of a 2005 Honda Pilot at $38,000, with the client JavaScript invoking the web service and displaying the result.
